Intelligent RFID transponder takes over monitoring function

HARTING RFID Embedded Transponder

The HARTING RFID Embedded Transponder (ETB) has been provided with extended functions: In addition to ID recognition, this innovative transponder is also able to transfer sensor data. This opens up new application fields for the technology, such as the securing of chair lifts or cable car systems. A key advantage here is the fact that mobile parts that do not have their own constant energy supply can be monitored comprehensively.

The integrated UHF (Ultra High Frequency) technology performs as a direct control system. In this environment it is important for an object or component that is equipped with an RFID transponder to be able to determine and wirelessly transfer not only its own ID, but also its current status with the help of connected sensors.

The passive operation represents the greatest advantage of UHF-based control systems. This means that both external sensors connected to the transponder can be addressed within a range of up to 3 meters, as well as additional data transferred to the reading device in passive mode. Here, passive mode means that the system on the transponder side functions without an energy source. The system obtains its energy from the RFID reader device. It radiates electromagnetic waves - in a frequency band, in Europe, of 865 to 867 MHz - and thereby powers the RFID transponder. Communication between reader and transponder also takes place via these radio waves.

The Ha-VIS RFID ETB 86v1 is equipped with up to 4 digital inputs that can be securely read and evaluated with the help of an EPC Class 1 Gen 2 compatible RFID Reader.
